Stop-Loss: a policy used by the Army to keep US soldiers and reservists in the military beyond the date when their service was supposed to end.
The movie screened last night at the Drexel. It opens the audience to see war and its emotional and physical consequence through a soldier's point of view. The opening scene is done documentary style and it is somewhat gory but realistic. Ryan Phillipe plays Brandon King, staff sergeant and leader of his pack. His best friend Steve Shriver(Channing Tatum) and Joseph Gordon Levitt also has a stellar performance in the movie especially when they all come home. They are given a heroes welcome when they return from their tour of duty and the main character talks about leaving the army for good. The movie weaves through different emotions and scenes but in a good way. It was a a good movie overall but decision BK made in the end is kinda heart wrenching in many ways. Channing Tatum is hot especially in the scene where he is down to his skivvies digging.
"Once a leader, ALWAYS a leader"
Kimberly Pierce the director had a Q&A after the movie and she answered the questions succinctly. When asked how she picked the songs for the movie she said it was partially based on what the soldiers listened to(Toby Keith, Drowning Pool,Prodigy) and also the kind of songs they listen to in Texas. She said her brother really was helpful in providing key details when writing and shooting the movie. When asked why she chose to screen in Columbus, she said that she thought Columbus was a rich market and because she made a trip here once before in '04 to canvas people to vote.
I really do hope this movie does well when it opens(not till March 2008).
