WINSTON-SALEM – In support of Skybus Airlines’ decision to select the Piedmont Triad International Airport as a focus city for their flight operations, a contingent of tourism officials representing the Piedmont Triad will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, November 1, 2007. The group will inform Columbus based travelers via travel media of the many tourism opportunities that exist in the Piedmont Triad region.
"Our mission is three-fold," notes Tammy O’Kelley with Randolph County Tourism and Chairman of the Piedmont Triad Host Group. "First and foremost, we want to say thank you to Skybus for selecting the Piedmont Triad International Airport as their second focus city. We will show Skybus the type of support they will receive from us when they open flights from the Piedmont Triad International Airport to other destinations. Additionally, we want to spread the word about the accessibility of the Piedmont as a travel destination."
"Discount airlines like Skybus have helped to create a true shift in travel, as short term weekend travel has taken the place of the traditional weeklong vacation. The Piedmont Triad offers an ideal location for a weekend jaunt, a girl’s getaway or a longer stay. We will introduce people in Columbus to the vast array of visitor experiences awaiting them in the Piedmont Triad. From grand meeting spaces, to affordable first-class golf, North Carolina’s premiere wineries, the internationally acclaimed North Carolina Zoo, the largest furniture industry trade show and shopping district in the world…and everything in between!"
The delegation will depart PTIA on Thursday, November 1st where a press conference will be hosted at 4:30 p.m. at the Piedmont Triad International Airport Lower Level Board Room on the baggage claim, across from Avis Car Rental. The group will return on Friday.
Participants in the media mission will include Henri Fourrier and Gail Murphy, Greensboro Convention & Visitor Bureau; Bob McCoy and Stephan Dragisic, Winston-Salem Convention & Visitor Bureau; Charlotte Young, High Point Convention & Visitor Bureau; Tammy O’Kelley and Amber Williams, Randolph County Tourism Development Authority; and Rod Hackney, North Carolina Zoo.
