Jeff Zucker took a big chance when he didn't show up to roast AOL Chairman/CEO Randy Falco at the Pierre Tuesday — Falco seared the NBC Universal CEO, who was traveling with GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt. Falco, who was at NBC for 31 years before leaving last year to head AOL, said: "We were No. 1 for so many years, with 'Friends, 'Frasier,' 'ER' and 'Cheers'. ... We thought it would never end. Then Jeff Zucker came along."
But Falco was ultimately barbecued, er, honored by Bob Costas and "Today" show executive producer Jim Bell, all to benefit the Center for Communication, which hooks media pros up with college students.
Neither stayed away from the delicate issue of Falco-ordered layoffs of 2,000 AOL employees this year. "Randy has three wonderful children," Costas said. "He used to have five, but he had to lay two off."
Media bigs like former GE chief Jack Welch, hunky Google ad wizard Tim Armstrong, VH1 original-programming Veep Michael Hirschorn and TV superagent Richard Liebner guffawed under the Murano chandeliers as Bell said, "The remainder of the entire AOL workforce is actually here today. How ya doin', Table 10?!"
But Bell, who carried a tendon-injured Falco around Barcelona during the Olympics as one of his first jobs, then ruminated, "Come to think of it, we unloaded the two biggest pains in the ass in the entire company in 2006" — as a blowup of Falco and Katie Couric appeared on the screen. Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, and Time Warner chief Dick Parsons sent tributes, noting that Falco, while beloved, is perhaps lacking in charisma.

According to R&M: Kim Cattrall was on a mission yesterday to dispel rumors that she's the least-liked cast member on the set of the "Sex and the City" movie. After being the first to arrive to film more wedding scenes outside the New York Public Library at Fifth Ave. and 42nd St., Cattrall (in her Zac Posen finery) bonded with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker. Later, while Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis had hair and makeup tweaked between takes, Kim tried to win over crowds by posing for a picture with a baby and taking photos of onlookers with her iPhone.
