VICE COLUMBUS-better than we expected

Kynt of Kynt &Vyxsin of this season's The Amazing race was actually there. Not sure about the history making part but it was good affair. The music upstairs was great. It was crazy packed but it was a good crowd. Milk bar's Kareem passed out some free CDs and definately check out their store opening THIS Saturday. We hope they build onto this and maybe switch up venues and have Aus10 DJ the next one. Vice was fun.

BATH AND BODY WORKS MAKES CHANGES

WWD reports:
Bath & Body Works is reinventing itself once again, by rethinking its experiment with outside prestige beauty brands and cutting its vendor list in half.
Four years ago, the vertical retailer heralded an internal revolution by tilting its business model to add a selection of outside brands to a smattering of doors in its chain. The shift in strategy reinvented BBW from an affordable purveyor of scented lotions and bath gels to a beauty apothecary that aimed to go head-to-head with Sephora to procure emerging brands.
The change plugged into BBW's then-chief executive officer Neil Fiske's trademark "trading up" strategy, which surmised that shoppers are already spending money, but they will spend more money in the right environment...
The concept caught on with niche beauty brands, many of which didn't have the might to do business with department stores, and fed shoppers' desire for discovery. At the height of the strategy two years ago, BBW had inked distribution deals with 80 beauty vendors, including Frédéric Fekkai, Molton Brown, Awake, Ahava, Vincent Longo cosmetics, Jaqua and Supersmile.
The retailer has since cut that number in half, and currently plans to carry about 40 outside — or third-party — brands in its 110 flagships across its 1,600-door chain, said Diane Neal, who replaced Fiske as ceo of BBW. Brands that have left or are slated to leave flagships by yearend include DDF, Peter Thomas Roth, Korres, Juvena and the retailer's proprietary line, The Savannah Bee Company.

Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream (which is a play on hip-hop speak with ice meaning "jewels" and cream as "cash") are both high-end skateboard-inspired brands, with product wholesaling from $45 for a graphic T-shirt to $880 for a crystal-encrusted jacket. Reebok produces the Ice Cream skateboarder sneakers (or board flips, as they are known), but all other styles are produced in-house.

The design of the new space took about three months to put together, but that was after a long period of waiting for the stainless steel fixtures and specially made shelves to come in from Japanese manufacturer D-Brain.

THE DESIGNER OR THE MUSE?

WHO WORE IT BEST?

2007 BRITISH FASHION AWARDS

Stella McCartney scooped the designer of the year award at the annual British Fashion Awards Tuesday night in London. Other winners at the black-tie dinner, held at Lawrence Hall in Westminster, included Anya Hindmarch for designer brand; Christopher Bailey of Burberry for men's wear designer; Marchesa for red-carpet design; jewelry designer Tom Binns for accessory designer, and Dame Vivienne Westwood for outstanding achievement in fashion design. But it wasn't only the big-name Brits who were honored: Designer Erdem Moralioglu won the Swarovski-sponsored British Fashion Council Fashion Enterprise Award, worth 50,000 pounds, or $103,000, in support for his label Erdem, and Christopher Kane was named new designer of the year. Meanwhile, Michael Howells, the British production designer who's known for creating the backdrops for John Galliano and Christian Dior shows, received the inaugural Isabella Blow award for fashion creator, which was presented by Philip Treacy and Blow's husband, Detmar Blow.

OSU ON THE HUNT

Business First:

Ohio State University has started the search for a replacement for Dr. Fred Sanfilippo, the former head of OSU Medical Center who left for Emory University over the summer.
The school hired the Chicago-based executive search firm Heidrick & Struggles International Inc. No timeline has been set for the search, spokeswoman Shelly Hoffman said. The search firm is to develop the job description and recruit candidates.
OSU President Gordon Gee told staff he would personally guide the search for a new senior vice president for health sciences, who heads both the hospital system and medical school.
"I am deeply committed to the Medical Center's success as we continue to forge one university," Gee said in a memo distributed Monday.
The health system has a $1.5 billion budget and more than 13,000 employees, and the College of Medicine is ranked 31st in the country by U.S. News and World Report.
Sanfilippo, who started in 2000, led a financial turnaround for the hospital system and more than doubled biomedical research funding. University officials are planning a nearly $1 billion expansion of the medical center, a project that has been delayed for a review of its scope and financial assumptions.
The only reason he's not with OSU anymore is because Mrs. Wexner did not want him partnering with Children's and the big OSU donors didn't like the way he went about things after he turned things around, pahfoewy!

TOM FORD TO DIRECT?

Lovers of fashion and caviar can have it all in one rather expensive package this holiday season. Retired couturier Yves Saint Laurent has reprised a 1973 New Year's design for his 2008 "Lovebox" for Pierre Bergé's Prunier caviar house. The 4-oz. tin, containing premium Saint-James caviar, sells for 375 euros, or $556 at current exchange. No-logo types might consider Prunier's "One to One" caviar, a beige box containing 4 oz. of eggs from a single fish, delivered within 24 hours of their harvest in the Bordeaux region, for 250 euros, or $371.

WWD reports

FORD EXPLORER: Could Tom Ford have finally found the material for his film directorial debut? Word is that Ford has set his eyes on directing the movie
adaptation of Christopher Isherwood's 1964 novel, "A Single Man." Few details could be learned, and his spokeswoman did not return calls for comment, but the book depicts a day in the life of a gay man in Los Angeles — a notion that Hollywood resident Ford should be all too familiar with. Ford launched his namesake men's bespoke business earlier this year, but has made no secret of his ambitions to break into the movie game since leaving Gucci Group in 2004.
